2009 has been a wonderfully fruitful year for Angie Collins. In this short period of time she has founded the popular energy medical practice Awakened Reiki Yoga, added artistic flair and expression to the world of Interfaith Ministry, opened the highly successful gallery exhibition ‘Spiritual Influences’ in which she brought the creative and spiritual communities together under one roof, and sponsored non-profit health and wellness programs. With juggling family life and performing with the band Any 1’s Guess, Angie does not seem to be slowing down any time soon. What is Angie’s inspiration? And what can we expect next from this soon to be household name?
Angie Collins was born in Lancaster, PA and grew up in a very small town called Oxford, PA. As Angie describes it, there was not much to this farm town, and open-minded thinking was not popular. Angie is the youngest of three children and believes that the benefit of being the youngest was being able to spend so much time with her mother and soak up inspiration. “My mom has always been the best person I know. She was an open-minded hippie who used to sing Beatles songs and tell me about how we were headed for the fifth dimension. She was known as a faith healer in the small town we lived in. When I told her I saw angels, auras and crossed over family members, she encouraged it.” Angie says that it was her mother’s faith in God that really showed her how we all can overcome adversity and not put the idea of God into a box. When her mother introduced her to Reiki the thought stayed with her. “I remember being about seven or eight years old and speaking to my mother about her cancer treatment. She told me ‘I want to learn Reiki.’ When I asked her what Reiki was, she demonstrated the energy that comes from the hands. I was hooked but on a more subconscious level of understanding. Twenty-one years later, I am fulfilling my dream of healing from a seed my mother planted. Even though she is gone, I feel her with me every step of the way.”
Angie has never shied away from ambitions, dreams or the spotlight. She has an extensive theatre and performance art background in vocal arts, stage acting and dance. While living in California she gained attention from several production companies and began to work in film and television. “Something was missing for me. I loved living in California, but I felt that what I was doing wasn’t benefitting anyone, much less myself. I wanted a deeper way of living.” Angie went back to her roots, studying and re-studying spiritual principals and found herself on the yoga mat. “Yoga was the one thing that changed my life. One yoga class is all it takes. I experienced a total recall of spiritual truth in the collective breathing in the room. I became voracious for both Yoga and Spiritual knowledge, immersing myself in the study of text and sampling different styles of yoga. Currently Bikram [hot yoga] is my favorite.” Hearing the call to ministry, Angie pursued her Interfaith Ordination and heard yet another call: a call to Knoxville Tennessee. “I had a dream about Fountain City’s duck pond, and having never been to Knoxville, I thought it would be important to answer the call. The best part of this journey has been the amount of like minded people I have found in an unlikely place.”
Angie credits her success to complete reliance and devotion to the divine. “I do not define success as anything except having the bravery to answer the divine calling and staying on the path. The best part of life is the journey that you experience.” Reiki has been an elemental force in Angie’s life and she has credited her deepest spiritual openings to her attunements and practicing her discipline. “Reiki is the greatest gift any person could receive. I do not see my practice of Reiki as something you just perform; it is a way of life and a catalyst for building foundations. Reiki cultivates integrity and opens the door to deeper spirituality no matter what your religion may be. I have a much better understanding of my relationship with the divine source than I ever did. The communication is reciprocated.” Angie encourages people to partake in Reiki just for the benefit of having a clean aura. “I always equate Reiki with bathing. You wouldn’t go years without bathing. So then, why would you let your aura go years without bathing in cleansing healing light?” Angie has developed a new style of Reiki that is called ChromoReiki ®: A natural way of giving light therapy without the use of LED or CFL lights. ChromoReiki ® uses the practitioner’s own ability to channel light for optimal health. “As an artist I have always found that color evokes emotions, and can also draw out emotional poisons. I became interested in chromo therapy; however the use of lights had an adverse affect on my natural energy patterns and vibrations. I began studies to see how to psychically ‘hold’ a person in the light. I have combined metaphysical principles with Reiki and now have a great way to administer chromo therapy without EMF interference.” As a burgeoning Reiki Master Teacher, Angie plans to instruct ChromoReiki ® in early 2011.
So, what are Angie’s plans for the year 2010? Angie has begun a support group for those who have been adversely affected by the subjugation of verbal and emotional abuse. The support group is called Women Against Verbal Violence or WAVV. “I believe that women are the bearers of spirituality, life and strength. We live because Mother Earth allows us to rest upon her. It is time for women to reclaim their power and reclaim their voice in this movement. We are using the symbol of the water bearer, the sacred feminine aspect of Aquarius as the inspiration of WAVV to show that the fluid spiritual essence of purity can always be reclaimed.” Angie also plans to grow in her musical expression. “Being in Any 1’s Guess is just another form of spirituality for me. I can express myself through song and experience catharsis. My band mates are like family to me. Who knows, I may add a sonorous vibrational therapy in 2010 also! What I am sure of is that I will continue to be grateful and honored to serve the community with my whole heart.”
