Raw Pizza & Sustainable Living Roadshow
Our Raw Pizza is a hit. Little Lotus is eating her third piece and counting. Yesterday we soaked our wheat berries, then dehydrated our crusts over night. This moring we added herbs sundried tomtato sauce, cashew cheeze and veggies then dehydrated for a while longer. So yummy it has fully satisfied all my junk food cravings without the yucky feeling.

Little Lotus and I attended such a wonderful event yesterday called the Sustainable Living Roadshow www.sustainablelivingroadshow.org. We had so much fun letting our inner flower children shine. The folks in the roadshow travel by bus caravan and all the buses run on veggie oil or biodiesel. We got to take a tour of the buses. The power for the event is all solar. There weren't a whole lot of people at the event, so I got to watch Little Lotus from a little bit of a distance as she made her own friends and had her own experiences. We met so many new friends and kindred spirits. Little Lotus even made friends with the security guards who were absolutley lovely. The whole event had a wonderful community feel. I was immediately reminded of how suported I feel as a parent when surrounded by community minded folks. I was also reminded of my goal of visiting eco villages aroung the country.
Hope you enjoy the pics!

Uncooking

This has been a wonderful day. I've spent most of it in the kitchen developing and experimenting. I am really loving Juliano's book RAW. So many wonderful recipes that inspire my own creations. I'm perfecting my sprouted bread recipe. Each batch is better than the last. I believe raisins will be my secret ingredient. We use a Ronco dehydrator (very affordable, we got ours on craigslit for $20). Because of the design of our dehydrator we must make each slice of bread individually, so they resemble large cookies.

Right now I'm sprouting, black beans and brown rice. I'm experimenting with a raw-fried bean recipe, raw spanish rice and rice milk. Today Little Lotus and I made cashew butter and strawberry jelly. The jelly was a bit runny because we sweetened with honey. Next time we'll sweeten with dates - should make a nice texture. We spread our cashew butter and jelly on our sprouted wheat raw bread - delicious. The jelly recipe with honey will make a great syrup when we make banana ice cream.

Thank you for visiting... we hope everything is your world is exactly as you love it

back to bliss
Little Lotus and I have just come through a transition. Transitions can be challenging even if they're positive. I've just cut our weekly food budget by about 50% which I was a little concerned about. I've also had a hard time staying raw. I'm still learning techniques to stay raw in changing circumstances and building my will power. It's a process and a journey for sure! The silver lining to our budget shift is that I am learning ways to eat raw with less money and I'm amazed at my creativity and resourcefulness. I've started sprouting more. Right now I have more sprouts than I know what to do with. Alfalfa, mung bean and lentil. Today I tried Juliano's recipe for hearty lentil soup in his book RAW. The soup is great. I added a little more sea salt than the recipe calls for. I am usually suspect of any recipe that uses avocados because they are sooooo amazing naturally that I have a hard time believing any recipe can compare, but the soup is great. This shift has also insprired me to add a "RAW ON A BUDGET" forum to Divine Revolution Magazine.

We've also begun shopping at more farmer's markets. In the past week we've picked up a 4 pound bag of fresh, local organic apples for $3 and  pears for $4. They are a different variety than are not usually sold at our local grocery stores. Very tastey and, again, I have more than I know what to do with.

I love the way eating raw and living more green and holistic is affecting my relationship with my daughter. I am a stay at home mom, and my daughter still breastfeeds so you'd think we're about as close as we can get, but as I begin to feel more alive and joyful our bond becomes deeper and deeper. We've recently created our compost pile and begun clearing a space for our garden. The day after working in our garden I could tell she felt more connected to me and more secure of the fact that I am happy with her and love her. At times, when I carry her she plants kiss after kiss on my cheeks or on my shoulders. She usually wakes up with a huge smile on her face as if anticipating a beautiful day. I find myself feeling much more compassionate and sympathetic to her needs and feelings. What a beautiful thing. I also notice that I have much more energy to play . I suprise myself by how playful I am with her without getting tired. Isn't it wonderful how feeling good about ourselves can heal and enliven our whole life and our connections to our loved ones.

My perspective on what is actually food has changed so much. I'm not saying that cooked food doesn't sound good to me at all (because it does), but I associate it with flavor and maybe a full sensation rather than nourishment. I have realized that most of my cooked food cravings are for the sensation that eating that particualar food will create in my body rather than the flavor or nourishment of it.

Tonight I'm developing "Goji Berry, Buckwheat Breakfast Cookies" and trying my first batch of "Rejuvelac" I'm very excited to taste them.
Here's to a wonderful evening and a gorgeous tomorrow.
Good Night

order from chaos
It's been a while since I've blogged. Soul searching I suppose. Gaining clarity on what to do next with the projects I've started. Last week I felt very overwhelmed and this week it all makes sense. Order from chaos.

I was so inspired by a video I watched on Urban Homesteading (thank you  Dervaes - check them out at www.pathtofreedom.com and thanks Angela Stokes www.rawreform.com). Little Lotus and I spent the cooler parts of the day making a compost pile in her old kiddie pool. We even cleared a small space to begin our kiddie pool , raised bed garden. We had so much fun playing in the dirt. She wore her winter gloves (will get little garden gloves soon). The video, called Homegrown Revolution, really helped me realize that we can really start right where we are. It doesn't need to be perfect, it's not rocket science, just do it! I was actually waiting to compost until I could afford a bin, then I realized this stuff wants to decompose. If I put it in a pile with some more green and brown stuff and a little water it will do it's thing.

I've been struggling with staying raw. My main challenges are social (going our with friends and family) & economic (how to afford raw organic food on a budget). Recently we've discovered about 5 Farmer's Markets in our area. That has made it alot easier to afford and the food we get is amazing. Yesterday we spent around $20 and came home with pounds of apples and pears, little tiny eggplants, and lots of other goodies. I feel a huge difference in my energy when I eat raw. I sleep much less and I feel light in every way - like I can feel my connection to all things. As soon as I eat something cooked I feel that blissful feeling dissipate. What a gorgeous journey.

Here's to another amazing day

Virtual Gathering
The sun is rising over the back yard. Fresh morning air is pouring in through the open widows and back door. Birds singing, bugs buzzing... what a glorious morning. I'm sitting at the computer listening to Goddess music. The song says "Gather we people, gathering we sing, gather we children of the Garden" That is exactly how I feel about Divine Revolution Magazine. What a wonderful virtual gathering!

This morning a couldn't wait to rise out of bed. My eyes shot open around 2:00 finally at 4:00 I realized that I wasn't going back to sleep. I was so excited to check my inbox for any responses to this months issue. I love the process of creating DRM, typos and all:) I'm finally getting it that things don't have to be perfect! We can just begin, and as we continue they get better and better. Actually imperfection can be perfect... sort of quirky.

Well inspiring family and friends, enjoy a wonderful day.THANK YOU FOR JOINING THIS VIRTUAL GATHERING!
In love and bliss

Rising Early
What a gorgeous morning. I've started rising around 5:30 am to get my work done early and have the rest of the day to play with Little Lotus.  Tomorrow I hope to rise at 5:00. This morning, as I was getting dressed, she popped her little head up and said, "Hi Mommy. Why are we up at night time?" So she's joining me today.

Last week I tried something new. I really wanted french fries so I experimented. I took 1/2 of a medium sized eggplant and made 3/8 in slices, then I sliced the slices into little fingers around 3/8 inch thick so they look like french fries. They were the perfect consistency... firm and a little floppy. I tossed the eggplant in a bowl with 1 1/2 -2 tablespoons organic cold-pressed olive oil (could substitute flax seed oil) and sea salt to taste. I wanted my "fries" sort of chilli-cheesy so I liberally sprinkled nutritional yeast and about a teaspoon to chilli powder.

Of course I needed ketchup so I took 1/2 tomato and stuck it in the food processor with a tiny handful of soaked almonds, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon honey and a dash or two of sea salt. This made a wonderful ketchup-like dipping sauce.

Little Lotus even wanted seconds and thirds. I'd love feedback if anyone gives this recipe a try.

I'm so excited about Divine Revolution Magazine. We hear from so many amazing people every day... can't wait to see what's in my inbox today.

Glorious
Wow! What a free-spirited day. Tomorrow is Little Lotus' third Birthday so we began celebrating today. She's enjoying a conventional birthday cake, & I've vowed by next year to perfect a yummy irresistible raw cake for her. Today we've enjoyed yummy sprouted hummus & avocado nori wraps. The sprouted hummus recipe is from the Ekaya Institute. Here you go...
Sprouted Hummus
2 cups garbanzo beans (soaked overnight or sprouted for a few days)
1/4 cup olive oil
3 cloves garlic
1/2 teaspoon celtic sea salt
Blend in food processor then add and blend in 1/2 cup of raw tahini.
(I also added to the recipe juice from 1/8-1/4 lemon)

So yummy wrapped in Nori with avocado and onion slices. Little Lotus can't stop eating them, and she's learning how to roll her own. I've stopped looking at her expectantly when she tries new raw dishes. I just hand it to her and go about my business and she decides if she likes it or not. Less pressure. When I make food for myself she likes to sit on my lap and share Mama's food

In order to resist the birthday cake I began working on a decadent banana pudding with raw chocolate honey sauce. It was so yummy. Maybe I'll post the recipe when I work it out a little more.

Divine Revolution Magazine is being received so well. So far this month we've already had over 1100 unique visitors to the site. Today alone over 300 people visited DRM, and so many beautiful submissions. This is only our second full issue.

All the best to you Beautiful People

Yummy Smoothie Cube Popcicles
We're receiving amazing feedback from readers of Divine Revolution Magazine and connecting with really high and inspiring artists. Feels so good to create something like this with so many gorgeous people.
Yesterday was so fun. Little Lotus and I went to the park, planning on staying for a hour or so. We ednded up staying for about 5 hours! Little Lotus made a new friend. They played in a creek and got all muddy. They looked and worms and ate raisins. It was so much fun we just couldn't go home.
When we got home, we came up with a great healthy popcicle idea. Remember ice cube popcicles? Well, here is a new twist on an old summertime favorite. Maybe you can make them too.

SMOOTHIE CUBE POPCICLES
2 organic bananas
3/4 lb organic strawberries
honey / agave nectar
spring or purified water

ice cube trays
at least 12 plastic baby/toddler spoons (the kind with small spoons and long handles work very well)

Place clean organic strawberries in blender with organic bananas. Add lots of honey / agave nectar.
Fill blender with spring or purified water. Blend until smooth.
Pour sweet smoothie into ice cube trays (We filled one tray and drank the smoothie while our popcicles froze).
Place a toddler spoon in each cube, handle up. They make great kid-friendly, reuseable popcicle sticks.
Place ice-cube tray in the freezer.
About three hours later you have a healthy, yummy snack.
Get creative and add your favorite fruits!

These smoothie cube popcicles are great for toddlers. The sticks fit perfectly into their little hands. When they drop half of the popcicle like my little one always does, you don't mind because it's only the size of an ice cube. They are also very healthy just like drinking a smoothie. When Little Lotus wanted one for breakfast I gave her one, I was going to make her a smoothie anyway.

Thank you for visiting my blog and Divine Revolution Magazine www.divinerevolutionmag.com
Sending high vibrations your way,
Lovely Lotus

Bliss
Another gorgeous sunny day. We're on our way to the park and the grocery store. After 4 days of feasting on raw foodI feel amazing. I see a huge difference in the mirror, and I'm very present emotionally. I usually wear very colorful eye makeup, but these days I love the natural colors of my skin. I've opted for simple black liquid eyeliner (egyptian style) and natural lip gloss. I Woke up this morning with visions of homemade nut milk ice cream. YUM! I'll keep you posted. We have chick peas sprouting in our sprouting jar to make into live hummus in a day or so. The Hippy Gourmet has a video on youtube with one of the chefs from Cafe Gratitude (My favorite Bay Area restaraunt) making live hummus out of almonds. Again... YUM! We'll be able to start our kitchen garden again soon when our seeds arrive. It seems that every glass jar through our doors is fated to become a delicious sprout garden. It's just so easy. Until...

another beautiful day
Today has been another amazing day. Little Lotus experienced detox symptoms, fatigue after three days of raw food. She requested pasta so she is eating organic pasta as well as fruits and veggies. I am still %100 raw. Yesterday I prepared delicious nut sushi. I was out of Nori so I wrapped the filling in lettuce leaves. It was so good! I may post some of the recipes in Divine Revolution Magazine next month. Little Lotus and I have painted outside in the sunshine two days in a row. We're working on an Eco-Earring design... very cute and colorful. I can't wait to feature them in DRM. I had yummie raw pizza again today. Little Lotus is getting creative without TV. Today she painted with me and played in the sprinkler. Last night we even jumped on the bed together! I'm sure we'll watch TV again, but it's a nice break.

Transformation
Little Lotus and I have experienced amazing leaps recently. Over the weekend we went 100% raw vegan, and predominantly organic. Yesterday we prepared raw pizza with an almond crust. Little Lotus ate 3 peices. The night before we enjoyed nutloaf on romain leaves w/ avocado. There isn't a health food store close to us and we haven't bought a car yet, so we walk to our local market every couple of days. They have a little organic section. We are getting friendly with the produce people so possibly we can influence an expansion.
This week we have been almost TV free. What a difference. The days seem to go on forever, and I have all of my time for creating dreams. I'm so excited about Divine Revolution Magazine, the amazing contributors and readers. I have enrolled in a Raw Food Educator certification course with Ekaya Institute. The course material is so phenomenal. That is really what prompted our dietary shift.
This is only the beginning.
