While pregnant with my daughter, I had a vivid vision of she and I saying affirmations together. It made perfect sense. Powerful positive statements had been so transformative in my life, I wanted to give her that gift from the very beginning. Little did I know just how far reaching my intentions would be.

As soon as she could form words we began.
"Who's amazing?" I would ask her.
"Nafisah," she'd reply.
"Who's phenomenal?"
"Nana" she would testify.
"Who's couragous?"
"Nana," she would sing.
"Who's strong?"
"Nafisah," she would shout.
On and on we'd go, listing as many positive adjectives as we could think of. When I ran out of affirmations she would remind me. "Genius," she might remind me or "Beautiful".

A couple of months ago when my little girl was two and a half years old we were experiencing a particularly challenging time. Alomost every aspect of our lives was shifting. I new it was all for the best, but emotionally I was close to exhaustion. While laying in bed my little girl took my face into her hands. "Look at me, look at me, listen" she said. "Who's courageous?" she asked me. I couldn't quite believe what I was hearing. She waited for me to answer.
"Asante." I said quietly.
"Who's a genius?" she asked confidently.
"Asante." I answered, truly feeling a light of those statements fill me. It felt great. Was this how she felt while she answered my affirmative questions?
"Who's phe-nom-en-al?" she asked.
"Nafisah," I replied.
"No, you are," she said, pointing at my chest.
"Asante," I said more confidently. She was very clear this session was for me and she wasn't done with me. She went on with a full list of my gorgeous attributes. My two and a half year old daughter had given me the greatest gift possible that day. A positive reflection of myself

The past two years have made me a true believer in the power of our own intuition. I have also come to rely on the wisdom and guidance of my personal guardian angeIs, and I am extrememly thankful that I have been blessed enough to give birth to one.
