An eye for an eye, in the circle on the sand,

my dreams like the waves cast away,

the house I built, the bricks I laid, the stones I collected,

and time that I gave,

all gone

the stars that saw, the birds that flew, across my window

of life then, but from that clouded mind, I grew,

it was not, just a dream, but a catalyst to form,

one to nourish with the stars as my guide

I embraced their protection, their guiding calm

their coldness infectious, I hold them in my arms

upon the shore I walk,

the water, warm, sweeping against my skin,

soft, firm, cold and gritty

but now, I won't fall in

no cleansing is needed,

I hold the salt in my skin

my fingertips are soft, and my heart is still beating

upon the shore I sometimes see

the remains of my old house,

decayed and almost forgotten,

still, the blood runs through my veins

from the stars, the birds, the window of my learning,

I learned to leave behind, not yearning

any more, for what doesn't offer solace

yet a distance of heart and mind

a memory I have and a life I live,

the colours on my palette, and the love that I gave

my heart is on my sleeve, tattered and torn

the tears I let free from my eyes

I don't mourn them

any more
